2022 Aglianico
Aglianico is a grape of gravitas, known for its deep color, firm structure, and unmistakable savory complexity—and in the warm, dry 2022 Paso Robles vintage, it delivered beautifully.
In the glass, the wine is dense and brooding, nearly opaque at the core with a garnet rim. The nose is varietally true and layered, beginning with aromas of black cherry, blueberry, and wild herbs, followed by and a touch of iron-rich earth—a subtle nod to Aglianico’s Old World roots.
The palate is full and firmly structured, driven by high natural acidity and robust tannins that speak to both the grape and the vintage’s smaller, thick-skinned berries. There's a mouth-coating density here, but also a restraint and vertical lift that keeps the wine vibrant and age-worthy.
While the tannins are youthful and assertive now, time in bottle—or a short decant—reveals balance and elegance. This is a serious, varietally honest expression of Aglianico, and a strong candidate for cellaring over the next decade.
Accolades
90 pts - Wine Enthusiast This dark but rather fruity bottling, starting with aromas of lilac, blueberry juice and grape candy. The palate also pops with fresh fruit flavors of blueberry and Concord grape. — Matt Kettmann- Appellation:
