Our Winemaker - Amy Butler

Amy graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Fermentation Science and a desire to produce amazing wines. She spent several years in Napa learning winemaking at the hands of craft masters of Napa Valley, such as Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and Schramsberg. Amy visited Paso Robles and it was love at first visit! This was 12 years ago when Paso Robles was just establishing itself as a world-class wine region. Amy was attracted to the excitement, the intrigue and the possibilities she felt were present within the winemaking scene. Amy is also by nature a small town girl who enjoys the pace, lifestyle and the natural beauty that Paso Robles offered. Amy left Napa and set out to create wines that were not stereotypical for Napa or even the big bold red Rhônes that Paso Robles was producing. She yearned to create wines that were elegant, refined, and understated. She has a true passion for creating wines of subtle distinction and character.

Amy honed her craft with some very notable wineries in Paso Robles, before launching her own label; Ranchero Cellars. Amy is also putting her winemaking magic to work at Pelletiere Estate creating Italian varietals that are delicious to drink, elegant, refined, and balanced. They are wines of intensity and power without excess weight, wines that are enjoyable, and memorable and worthy to be shared with friends at the table.

Amy regularly walks the rows of our estate vineyard, inspecting the vines and the fruit and discussing the vintage progress with our vineyard manager. She is similarly hands-on in the winery, tasting wines from the barrel, managing all wine movement, rackings, bottling, and of course, controlling our harvest and crush.

Amy is considered one of the young, hip winemakers that are bringing Paso Robles to the attention of the American wine drinker and constantly pushing the envelope of quality and craft.
